There are three types of CDL licenses:

– Class A – Permits the holder to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, provided the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle or vehicles towed exceeds 10,000 pounds.

– Class B – Permits the holder to operate any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more, any one of those vehicles towing a vehicle that does not exceed 10,000 pounds GVWR, and any vehicle designed to transport 24 passengers or more, including the driver. If the skills test is taken in a bus with a GVWR of fewer than 26,001 pounds, the holder will be restricted to operating buses under 26,001 pounds GVWR.

– Class C – Permits the holder to operate any single vehicle or combination of vehicles that is not a Class A or B if the vehicle is designed to transport 16 to 23 passengers including the driver, or used in the transportation of hazardous materials that require the vehicle to be placarded under 49 CFR, Part 172, Subpart F.

To qualify for a CDL license, you must:

– Be at least 21 years old

– Have a valid driver’s license

– Pass a DOT physical exam

– Pass a knowledge test about the rules of the road and traffic signs

– Pass a skills test that demonstrates your ability to operate a commercial vehicle

CDL stands for commercial driver’s license and is required to operate a commercial vehicle for Mesilla Valley Transportation. The process of obtaining your CDL license may vary slightly from state to state, but some general steps are typically followed. First, you will need to obtain a CDL permit, which allows you to practice driving with a licensed truck driver.

After you’ve practiced driving and feel confident behind the wheel, it’s time to take the skills test. The skills test is a practical exam that will assess your ability to operate a commercial vehicle. It includes a pre-trip inspection, during which you’ll be required to identify and explain various parts of the vehicle; a basic control skills test, during which you’ll demonstrate your ability to start, stop, and steer the vehicle; and a road test, during which you’ll show your ability to operate the vehicle in traffic.

Once you pass the skills test, you’ll be issued your CDL license. Congratulations – you’re now a commercial truck driver! Just remember to keep your license up to date and follow all the rules of the road, and you’ll be safe and successful in your new career.
